How to Play UNO Online

A step-by-step guide to playing UNO in your browser with friends.

Step 1: Enter a Nickname

Go to the Play page and type your nickname. This is what other players will see during the game. You can use up to 16 characters.

Step 2: Create or Join a Room

Create a Room: Click "Create New Room" to start a new game. You'll become the host and receive a room code (like UNO-ABCD). Toggle "Private Room" if you only want people with the link to join.

Join a Room: Enter a room code shared by a friend, or click "Browse Public Rooms" to find open games.

Step 3: Invite Friends

Share the room code or click "Copy Invite Link" to send a direct link. Friends can join from any device — phone, tablet, or computer.

Step 4: Start the Game

The host clicks "Start Game" once at least 2 players have joined. Each player receives 7 cards, and a card is flipped to start the discard pile.

Step 5: Play Cards

On your turn, click a card that matches the top of the discard pile by color, number, or symbol. If you can't play, click the draw pile to draw a card. After drawing, you can play the drawn card or pass.

Step 6: Call UNO!

When you have 1 card left, press the UNO button quickly! If another player catches you first, you'll draw 2 penalty cards.

Step 7: Win!

The first player to play all their cards wins. The host can start a new game immediately.

Tips for New Players

• Save your Wild and +4 cards for when you really need them
• Pay attention to what colors other players are low on
• Don't forget to call UNO — the penalty is harsh!
